Half pension?

Q. I am 42 and have 11 years of covered law enforcement time. Can I leave for a state position and collect half at age 45? This is what I was told.

A. Whoever told you that was full of beans. If you left, you’d only be eligible for a deferred retirement at age 62, and your annuity would be computed using the standard formula, not the enhanced one for law enforcement officers.
