Payment of Medicare Part B

0

Q. My wife and I will not be eligible for Social Security, so when we reach 65 and apply for Medicare, can I have our premiums deducted from my federal retirement payment in addition to my health insurance premium?

A. If you are referring to Medicare Part A, no premiums are due. That’s because you’ve already paid for that benefit through payroll deductions.

If you are referring to Part B, for which premiums are charged, the answer is yes for you; however, your wife’s premiums couldn’t be deducted from your annuity. She would have to arrange for them to be deducted from her own annuity or make some other arrangement to pay them.
