Q. I am 64 years old with 28 years in the post office, all FERS. I would like to retire in March. How long will it take for my Social Security checks, my Thrift Savings Plan account and my Postal Service pension checks to begin? A. You can elect to continue your Federal Employees Health Benefits and Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance coverage when you retire. What no one can tell you is how long it will take for your annuity and Social Security benefits to begin. As for your TSP account, it depends on what you decide to do with it.
