WEP for retirees receiving an annuity

1

Q. Would a person who received a CSRS refund after 20 years of service at the U.S. Postal Service be subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision at age 62?

A. The WEP only applies to retirees who are receiving an annuity from a retirement system where they didn’t pay Social Security taxes. Since you won’t be receiving an annuity based on your Postal Service employment, the WEP won’t apply to you.

  1. Wow! I don’t know why anyone would withdraw 20 years worth of CSRS contributions. You just did yourself out of nearly 40 percent of your high 3 salary average in a pension which would have lasted for the rest of your life. If you can get rehired on with any government agency, you could redeposit that and be entitled to your pension again.
