LEO retirement

Q. I’m a law enforcement officer. I have 25 years of covered service and can retire at any age. If I do, I’ll only be 46 years old. When will I receive my benefits?

A. You would immediately be entitled to an annuity, plus the special retirement supplement. You could even take a non-government job and earn as much as you want without it affecting the SRS until you reach your minimum retirement age. At that point, any earnings that exceeded the annual Social Security earnings limit would reduce or eliminate the SRS. FYI: Your MRA is age 56 and 10 months.
