Spouse benefits for Social Security

0

Q. My husband is a retired federal employee under CSRS. Does he have survivor benefits for my Social Security?

A. He does. However, because he is receiving an annuity from a retirement system where he didn’t pay Social Security taxes, his Social Security survivor annuity would be subject to the government pension offset provision of law. The GPO would reduce that benefit by $2 for every $3 he gets in his CSRS annuity.
