Q. I work under FERS. On March 13, 2014, I will reach my minimum retirement age of 57. I will have 29½ years in. I also have six months of sick leave. Can I use my sick leave to get credit for 30 years of service and retire six months early?
Q. I found out from the Office of Personnel Management that the end of the leave year in 2021 will be Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, and for 2022 will be Dec. 31, 2022. I will have age and time in 2021 as I will be 62 and seven months with 29 years service. It looks as though I may have two years in which I could retire and still get an entire year of annual leave. Q. I will have 36 years, seven months and 18 days of CSRS creditable service when I retire on Jan. 3, 2014. At that time, I will have earned one year, seven months and 19 days of unused sick leave credit. This gives me 38 years, three months, and seven days if total CSRS service credit for computing my annuity. If I understand the Federal Retirement Benefits statement my personnel section provided me, the seven days are dropped and not considered in the calculations. The report has a footnote for the seven days that states, “7 days of unused CSRS…
Q. There is a possibility I can move (promotion) to a different government organization. I have 4½ years now with the General Services Administration, and the new position is with the Air Force. Would all items transfer from one to another (sick leave, annual leave, so on)?

Q. For retirement, can restored leave be paid as a part of your annual leave lump-sum payment?
Q. I retired in 2009 and have been receiving retired pay since then. Is there any reason to hold onto my leave and earnings statement records from the time I was an active civil servant?
