Social Security reduction

Q. Is the Social Security benefit that the federal retiree receives from a spouse’s nonfederal work history reduced in any way because the retiree is receiving a federal pension?

A. If you are a CSRS retiree, the answer is yes. The Social Security spousal benefit would be reduced by $2 for every $3 you receive in your CSRS annuity. If you are a FERS employee, the answer is no.
