Q. I retired from the government (FBI) on Sept. 30. My annual leave hours were close to 200. When would I receive a check for these hours?

Q. Is it legal for an employee to be forced to take leave without pay before using his or her annual or sick leave for being late for work? Supervisors are not allowing the use of sick or annual hours for being late.
Q. I plan to leave my federal civilian position soon but would like to use all of my accrued annual leave at once (I have about 380 hours) and leave on the last day. Do I have a right to make this request for leave? Does it require supervisory approval?
Q. I had a retirement date of Jan. 3, 2014, but have developed some health problems and may need to go out earlier or use my 17 weeks of sick leave, which would take me to the same date. Would it behoove me to use up the sick leave or go out two to three months earlier with the sick leave in tact? I will have 35 years, eight months and 13 days if I go out on Jan. 3, 2014.
Q. I’m getting ready to retire and have 2,285 hours of sick leave. Is it true that I lose anything over an exact month’s worth of leave? And how many hours equal a month or a year?
Q. I am a federal employee under FERS with 28 years of service. I understand that service credit for accrued sick leave can only be credited once you’ve qualified for retirement, which, in my case, would be 30 years. Does this apply if you receive a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority before then? Would my sick leave be credited, or would I lose it under this scenario?
Q. I plan on retiring Jan. 11 or Feb. 22. With the 1 percent raise starting in January, wouldn’t it be better to wait until the February date to get the max from my 240 hours of use-or-lose leave, or would it not make a difference?
Q. I will be retiring at the end of December or beginning of January 2014, depending on your answer. I am a FERS employee who will have about eight years, so my annuity will be small (I retired from the Air Force with 25 years of service). I am thinking it would be better for me to retire Jan. 11, 2014, instead of Dec. 31, 2013, because a full paycheck will be quite a bit more than the monthly annuity, so it would be worth skipping an annuity payment in favor of a paycheck. I just want to make sure…
Q. I work for the Defense Department with 16 years of service. If the rumored next round of Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay occurs (and I should be 57 by then), can I take the VSIP, not pull my FERS retirement contributions and apply for the discontinued service retirement at 62? If yes, does my sick leave still count for calculating the retirement amount? Is giving up the DSR a requirement for VSIP?
Q. I plan on retiring in January 2014. My planned date is Jan. 10. The leave year ends Jan. 11. I have 240 hours carryover and 121 balance from 2013. Will I lose the 121 hours if I go past Jan. 3 for retiring?
