Q. I have 20 years of service at 50 years of age. I am thinking about leaving the government. I plan to defer my retirement. I understand if I do this, I will lose my health and life benefits. I also understand I would not lose them if I wait until I am 56. My question is, if I return to the government when I am 57, and retire at 60, will I be eligible to receive full retirement benefits? That would give me 23 years of service at 60.

Q. If someone resigns at their minimum retirement age of 56 with 24 years of credible Postal Service and postpones taking their annuity until right after their 60th birthday, is it true they fall under the age 60 with 20 years of service and will qualify for the FERS special retirement supplement and zero reduction of their FERS annuity? And are they entitled to reapply for Federal Employees Health Benefits?

Q. I served four years as active Air Force and then joined the Air Guard. I finished with 20 years of service and can not apply for military retirement until I turn 60. After I left active duty I worked at the Veterans Administration hospital for seven years. Before I left, HR told me that if I bought my four years of active duty back and paid a fee, interest I believe they called it, I could receive a partial pension with 11 years when I turn 56. I’ve seen so many comments, some saying I can not collect both…

Q. I’m 24 years retired from the military and currently a federal employee under FERS. The Employee Benefits Information System reflects I am eligible for MRA+10 by December 2024. By then, I am 56 years old. Will I be illegible for SRS if I retire at my minimum retirement age?

Q. I will have 30 years of service in October 2018, but I will only be 55 years old as of Aug. 29, 2018. I am so ready to retire — with the stress of the U.S. Postal Service and my family stresses, I cant endure another year of service. Can I retire in October 2018?
