Q. I never heard of anyone being offered both a VERA and a VSIP. Is that possible?
Q. My wife is 60 years old, has 28 years FERS service with the Internal Revenue Service, and has been offered a VERA and a VSIP effective Dec. 31, 2017, Can she then apply after December 31 for Social Security disability?
Q. I am planning to take a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority. I work for the Transportation Security Administration and will have my 10 years of service with them when I plan to leave. I am 56 years old. I am mainly concerned with the medical/dental, etc. benefits, which I have had for myself as well as my family for the entire 10 years. Will they still be covered, too?
Q. My wife was a FERS employee who retired under the Voluntary Early Retirement Authority due to a reduction in force. She had 25 years of service and was age 50. Will she receive the special retirement supplement at age 56 or her minimum retirement age?
Q. I am a civil service employee that was involuntarily retired from the Department of Defense in 1997 due to base closure. I received a VSIP/VERA in the amount of $25,000. At the time I was 47 years old with 23 years plus four years of military time, which was credited toward retirement. Three months later I was hired by the U.S. Postal Service. I have been there for a little more than 19 years now. I am 66 years old now and am considering retirement this year. Will I be allowed to retire with the total years of service or…
Q. I was informed by my local human resources and retirement benefits representative that under FERS, with 30 years of credible service, I am eligible for retirement at any age (I am age 50, with 20 credible years of service) without reduction in annuity payments. Does this seem correct?
Q. I am a U.S. postal worker. I will have 27 years of employment with the U.S. Postal Service this year and will also turn 56. Can I immediately start drawing the annuity supplement if I retire at the age of 56? As a postal worker, I must have 30 years of government service before I am eligible for the annuity supplement, correct?
Q. If a voluntary early retirement is something that must be offered, it shouldn’t be called “voluntary.” To me, the term is a misleading contradiction in and of itself. “You can voluntarily retire; but [only] if we (your organization) offer it.” What are your thoughts?
Q. I will have 30 years in service on Aug. 8, 2018. I will apply for retirement under the Voluntary Early Retirement Authority (VERA) at that time and see where the dart hits the dartboard. I will be 49 years old (plus a few days) — young enough to perhaps move onto something else. Is there anything I should know?
