Q. I recently turned 62. Four years ago, I had my disability retirement approved by the United States Postal Service. Unfortunately, Social Security did not approve my disability and I didn’t receive any monthly benefit until I turned 62 and that was at the non-disability dollar rate. Does my USPS disability retirement monthly annuity increase to what a voluntary immediate retirement is? And, since I turned 62 several months ago, will the Office of Personnel Management process a lump sum payment to cover those several months?

Q. I retired as a master sergeant in the Army with 25 years of active-duty service. I currently collect my Army retirement check and disability from the Department of Veterans Affairs. I have been a FERS GG-12 for nine years. I believe I can buy back my military retirement time with interest and that would be added to my civilian FERS time. When do I have to relinquish my military retirement check: when I retire into FERS or when I have bought back my time?
Q. I am MRA +10 and want to postpone receipt of my FERS annuity until I turn 62. My agency says if I choose to “postpone” I can’t retire but have to resign and contact the Office of Personnel Management six months before my 62nd birthday. How do I “retire and postpone” instead of resign?
Q. Would an annuity based on 16 years’ service be more than one based on five years?
Q. What is the reasoning behind why FERS retirees don’t receive a COLA increase until age 62 and CSRS retirees receive it proportionately in the year after they retire?
Q. I have a total of 18 years of active duty and reserve time, and I will be retiring in two years once I complete my 20 years of service. I am currently a civil employee. Do I buy back my military time toward FERS civilian service or do I hold up and completely retire from the military and then buy back the civil service time?
Q. I am receiving 90 percent Department of Veterans Affairs disability pay, plus retired reserve pay, and retiring from FERS after 10 years of civilian service and paying in for a military deposit covering 14 years of active duty (to get credited with a total of 24 years for my civil service retirement pay calculation). Will they deduct anything from either my VA disability payment or my retired reserve pay, because I am buying back the 14 years of active duty?
Q. I am a FERS retiree and I just went back to work as a contractor. They are telling me that I have to purchase their insurance because BCBS is not an employer health care program. I told them I’m retired and have BCBS for life and pay premiums. If I have to pay for their company insurance, I will be paying over $600 a month in premiums. Is there anything I can do about this?
Q. I will be 60 years of age in December 2018 with 17 years of service with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. I have signed a Declination of Unreasonable Offer since the position will be outside commuting area, so I will be involuntarily separated. Do I qualify for severance pay and, if so, can I postpone FERS retirement for two years to receive FEHB? Are both events possible?
Q. My husband is deceased and left me with a survivor annuity. He was a Civil Service Retirement System employee with 42-plus years. I retired at 52 with my own FERS service. When I turned 62 they discontinued my FERS Annuity Supplement. I am planning on starting my Social Security soon. Will I continue to receive his CSRS survivor annuity and my own FERS annuity along with my Social Security? I was told by a friend that I could not have all three. Is this true?
