Q. I have been in the federal government for 15 years and now my position (excepted service) is being abolished through a reduction in force. 1. If I take the severance pay, does that turn my involuntary separation into a voluntary one? 2. If I take the severance pay, do I lose my 15 years of service if I get re-employed with a federal job?

Q. I was employed by the Department of the Air Force from 1987 to 1991 as a social worker at Torrejon Air Base, Spain. I left there and was employed by the Department of the Air Force from 1992 to 1996 as a social worker. I left federal employment until April, when I started working for the Veterans Affairs Department. Do I get to count the Department of the Air Force years toward leave status and retirement? I have an SF 50 that has my service computation date as Aug. 12, 1987.
Q. I will be eligible to retire in September. My agency is also offering a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay to qualified employees. In September 1995, I was part of a reduction in force. As a result, I eventually requested a refund of my retirement contributions. I was re-employed with the federal government in May 2001 under CSRS Offset and did not redeposit the refund. Will this affect the amount of my retirement annuity?
Q. If a government employee receives a Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay and goes to work a month later for a personal service contractor, is that person subject to repaying the $25,000? If so, who can one contact about repaying it or reporting others who have accepted the VSIPs and went to work for government contractors without paying the $25,000 back?
Q. I retired in January 2000 as a DK 0200/GS4-7 on disability. I am trying to find out what the current salary would be so I can figure exactly what I can make per year at a job now?
Q. I started government employment in 1984. A few years later, I left the government and cashed out the FERS retirement money. I then went back into government employment and started my FERS savings again. Can I buy back what I cashed out to add/restore number of years in service lost for retirement computations?
Q. I recently resigned a dual status technician job (excepted service) for a job in the Defense Contract Management Agency. Do I have any rights to return to my previous position if this position does not work out?
Q. I am retired from the State Department. I am being rehired under a personal services contract. Will this affect my retirement annuity?
Q. I have 25+ years at 63 years old and am eligible for FERS retirement. If I were to accept the Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay, would I be penalized for continuing to work with Wildland Fire as an administratively determined retired federal employee? No one in human resources seems to be able to answer this one. I suspect the way the language is written, the answer is no.
Q. I am a Defense Department civilian under FERS. I have nine years of service. I plan to take a break in service to finish a graduate degree program (actually resign). I plan on being hired again (probably four to eight months later) at a higher grade and working another two to three years. Is there any significant impact to any retirement related issues? Loss of Thrift Savings Plan, reduced benefits?
