Q. I am retiring at age 60 on Sept. 30. I have more than 22 years in and I meet the criteria for the special retirement supplement. I turned 60 in early June and have received my estimate with the supplement. I have volunteered for retirement with a buyout. I asked my retirement specialist about the earnings limit and he gave the example here: www.govexec.com/pay-benefits/retirement-planning/2013/01/little-extra-under-fers/60735/ If I prorate the earnings limit for the remainder of this year, that would be about $1,250 a month for three months for a total of $3,750. Let’s say I stay within that limit for the remainder…

Q. I took the Voluntary Early Retirement Authority in July 2012 under FERS because of health reasons. I had 24.9 years and I get the special retirement supplement. Since then, I was awarded disability benefits from the Social Security office with benefits beginning Jan 1, 2013. Since I did not retire under FERS disability with the Postal Service, do I still get to draw the supplement with my annuity along with my Social Security disability?

Q. I retired under a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority with 24 years of service. I’m supposed to start receiving my special retirement supplement when I turn 56, my minimum retirement age. I don’t know how much the supplement will be or how to calculate it. How can I find out how much my SRS will come to?

Q. I can retire in June 2014 at 60 with 26 years in FERS. As it will be in June, I will have made more than the $15,000-plus earnings limit. If I max out my TSP contribution (approximately $11,000 for six months), my net working income will drop so I can get under the $15,000-plus earnings limit; will my special retirement supplement the following year be unreduced?

Q. When I retire, I will be 59½ and will have 30 years of service at the Postal Service. I will not have any earned income from that point on. I understand federal and state taxes will be taken out of my FERS annuity and any money I take out of my Thrift Savings Plan. Will I also have Supplemental Security Income deducted from these two sources? Also will my special retirement supplement and, when I turn 62, my SSI benefit also be subject to federal and state taxes?
