Q. I’m retiring and have been enrolled in the FEHB program for over five years. Can I stay on Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s federal coverage along with Part A Medicare for as long as I please? I’m thinking of keeping BCBS instead of Medicare Part B or any other supplemental program. Is that a good idea?

Q. I have 20 years of service at 50 years of age. I am thinking about leaving the government. I plan to defer my retirement. I understand if I do this, I will lose my health and life benefits. I also understand I would not lose them if I wait until I am 56. My question is, if I return to the government when I am 57, and retire at 60, will I be eligible to receive full retirement benefits? That would give me 23 years of service at 60.

Q. How do I suspend my health insurance coverage? I will be eligible for my Air Force Reserve Retirement (100 percent VA health care and later TRICARE), Social Security (Medicare health coverage) and my annuity as a VA Medical Center employee (FEHBP). When I become eligible for TRICARE health coverage, I desire to suspend my civilian coverage and use TRICARE as primary and Medicare as secondary.

Q. My husband and I are both retired from the Postal Service under CSRS. Each of us has carried Self Only coverage through FEHB continuously during our working years and throughout retirement. Since these premiums continue to rise, one of the plans for 2018 is cheaper for us to go with Self Plus One. If we switch to Self Plus One for 2018 because of the price, then can we each go back to Self Only in 2019 open season? Second question: If he passes away while he has carried me under his Self Plus One, can I immediately go…

Q. Federal employees who are veterans with service-connected disabilities and who use the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) for their healthcare are not afforded the opportunity to suspend their Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) upon retirement. This forces those veterans to choose between FEHB, Medicare Part B/C, when they need neither. Is this an Office of Personnel Management policy that can be changed, or does the solution require an act of Congress?

Q. I am a CSRS annuitant who retired with a Federal Employee Health Benefits family plan in 2010. In 2016, my spouse, who is a federal employee, enrolled in the FEHB Program and I suspended my FEHB enrollment because she picked up our family plan that included myself. My spouse is going to retire in April 2018, and from what I have read she won’t meet the five-year criteria prior to retiring to keep FEHB. What is the procedure to re-enroll as an annuitant in the FEHBP so my spouse and family does not lose coverage? Does her ineligibility, by…

Q. Is there any benefit to postponing my retirement pension when I turn age 62? I am eligible then, as I will have the minimum five years’ creditable service through the Department of Veterans Affairs and four years’ active-duty Army. I plan to continue working in the private sector as long as possible. I would prefer to keep my government health insurance and life insurance, if possible.

Q. I am 63 and retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot. I have coverage with Geisinger Health Plan as part of my retirement package. I have Tricare standard, being retired military. How do I drop Geisinger since I receive Tricare at no monthly cost? It makes no sense to pay for one that is close to $300 per month when I have Tricare that has a much lower deductible, and I will have to come under Medicare Part B in the near future. How do I do this?
