Q. I’m retiring and have been enrolled in the FEHB program for over five years. Can I stay on BCBS Federal coverage along with Part A Medicare for as long as I please? I’m thinking of keeping BCBS instead of Medicare Part B or any other supplemental program. Is that a good idea?

Q. I am a fed with a non-fed spouse. We both currently carry health insurance on ourselves with the exception she has me on her vision and dental. We both can retire this coming year. She cannot carry insurance into retirement. Should I put her on mine now or can I when she retires as a life-changing event? Hers is better than mine currently and I want to keep her on it as long as possible. Should I add vision and dental now or can I do that when I add her?

Q. I am 51 on Dec. 19, 2017. I have been with the government for 34 years. I have been offered Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment and Voluntary Early Retirement Authority. Can I take advantage of both? If I accept the VSIP and get the $25,000 buyout, can I keep my health insurance and benefits for life thru VERA? From my understanding, if I accept the VSIP, I will lose my health benefits in 18 months. Since I qualify for both VSIP and VERA, can I take both and get the buyout and keep the health benefits?

Q. I have 20 years of service at 50 years of age. I am thinking about leaving the government. I plan to defer my retirement. I understand if I do this, I will lose my health and life benefits. I also understand I would not lose them if I wait until I am 56. My question is, if I return to the government when I am 57, and retire at 60, will I be eligible to receive full retirement benefits? That would give me 23 years of service at 60.

Q. If someone resigns at their minimum retirement age of 56 with 24 years of credible Postal Service and postpones taking their annuity until right after their 60th birthday, is it true they fall under the age 60 with 20 years of service and will qualify for the FERS special retirement supplement and zero reduction of their FERS annuity? And are they entitled to reapply for Federal Employees Health Benefits?

Q. How do I suspend my health insurance coverage? I will be eligible for my Air Force Reserve Retirement (100 percent VA health care and later TRICARE), Social Security (Medicare health coverage) and my annuity as a VA Medical Center employee (FEHBP). When I become eligible for TRICARE health coverage, I desire to suspend my civilian coverage and use TRICARE as primary and Medicare as secondary.
