Q. My husband resigned from federal service eight months shy of fulfilling five years of service. If he returns to the federal government and has left his retirement in place, I know that he will begin accruing time toward his five years vestment. However, do his years of service also accrue from where his time left off – four years and four months?

Q. I am age 61. Planning to retire (FERS) in November and take Social Security in February 2014 at the age of 62. If I submit my paperwork in October (waiting to see if there is a buyout), retire Nov. 30, and it takes three months to process paperwork, will I get a retirement check + special retirement supplement for December and January, whenever the retirement checks are processed? For example: When I receive my first payment in February, will it include funds/checks for December and January, as well as February?

Q. What would my retirement benefit percentage be if I retire at 20 years as a law enforcement officer but I am only 43? Four years of military bought back. Started in the Federal Bureau of Prisons at age 22 in 1993. Will have 20 years on Sept. 19 and will turn 43 a few days later. Served in the Army from age 18 to 22, 1989-1993. Can I do this? Presumably with a decreased benefit.

Q. I am a FERS employee considering retirement after 22 years of military service and 24 years of federal civilian employment. I will be 65 or older at the time of retirement. Are there any rules limiting for whom you may choose to work after retirement? Specifically, are you disallowed from working for the government of another country directly as an employee or in a contract relationship?

Q. I’m a 57-year-old FERS employee with 21 years of service. My human resources benefits adviser said I will be eligible to retire on unreduced immediate annuity at 60 years old with 24 years of service. Would I be eligible for the special retirement supplement when I retire at 60 years old? The HR benefits adviser also said I can retire now on MRA+10 provisions, but my annuity will be reduced by 5 percent for every year I’m under 62. If I retire now, since I’m over 55 years old, would I be able to withdraw my Thrift Savings Plan…

Q. I am an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration. On Jan. 31, 2018, I will be forced out at age 56. On Feb. 17, 2018 I would have received my 30 years of federal service. So as it stands right now I would get 20 years at 1.7 and nine years and 11 months at 1.0. If I take another federal job for the 17 days, would I then get 1.7 for 29 years and 11 months and 1.0 for the remainder of time?  If so, can there be a break in service or does it have…

Q. I’ve been an employee for more than 30 years. However, four of my permanent years were taken away from the law enforcement 20-year retirement. So I have 18.5 years of LE retirement. My age is 60. Is there talk of an early-out for National Park Service employees? I need to wait for the LE retirement to kick in as I would get almost twice as much in retirement.
