Q. How does the Office of Personnel Management calculate the special retirement supplement? I turn 56 this year and plan on retiring with 33 years government service; 9 of which are for military time that I bought back. Based on comments that means that my SRS will be based on 24 years of civilian federal employment.

Q. I have been trying to get a straight answer for years on a matter. I spent 11 months as a U.S. Probation Officer, which comes under federal law enforcement officer retirement, and then moved to the FBI as a Special Agent. I was told early in my career that the first position as U.S. Probation Officer did not count toward LEO retirement because I had a two month break in service. Later I was told it did count. Does it count?

Q. I am facing having to retire under a medical retirement. Effective this May I will only have a total of 9 years government service under FERS and I am only 52 years old and not eligible for regular retirement yet. What is the difference between a disability retirement and medical retirement and what would my annuity payment be based on? I was told I would receive 80 percent of my high-3. Is this correct?
Q. My husband retired in December 2016. He has been receiving his FERS non-disability annuity plus the special annuity until he turns 62, which was a few days ago. He was also just approved for Social Security Disability Insurance and will receive a lump sum for all of 2017. Will this lump sum affect the special annuity he already received, since it does have an earnings limit? In other words, will he have to pay it back?
