Browsing: Minimum retirement age

Q. I am a 45-year-old FERS employee with 10 years of service in the federal government and having Federal Employees Health Benefits from when I started, wanting to retire (at 45). Am I eligible for federal health insurance when I reach my minimum retirement age (58)? Or can I retire at 45 and rejoin the federal service (and take FEHB) at 56 or 57 and retire at 58 to get FEHB?

Q. I am 56 years old (my minimum retirement age) with 27+ years in the Postal Service and four years in the Marine Corps, which I bought back. One person at retirement counseling told me I was not eligible for the special retirement supplement. Several of the specialists told me I was. I am retiring voluntarily. Is there a special situation being a FERS transferee that would keep one from getting the supplement?

Q. I will have 30 years in January and will be 55 years old in March. I’m a FERS employee working for Hill Air Force Base, Utah. If an early-out is offered and I take it before my minimum retirement age of 56 years, will I still get the special retirement supplement paid to me monthly until I reach the 62 years of age, or will I lose that benefit?

Q. In September 2014, I will be 55 years old with 29 years of service. My minimum retirement age for full retirement is 56 (with 30 years). If I am offered a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay in September 2014 and take it, when would I start drawing my special retirement supplement?  I will be 56 in March 2015.

Q. I’m under. I know, under MRA +10, I need to have more than 10 years of service and have to be at least 57 to retire before my minimum retirement age with a 5 percent-per-year reduction for each year under 62 or retire at 60 with no reduction. If I have one year of unused sick leave accrued by the time I’m 59, could I retire at 59 and have my year of unused sick leave credited toward my years of service to avoid the reduction of 5 percent, or do I still have to work until 60 to avoid reduction…
