Q. I retired in 2004 under the D.C. Police and Firefighters Retirement System (Metro Plan) and immediately re-entered the federal government as a permanent full-time employee. My second career will consist of 11 years. I assume I will be able to continue to receive my current annuity and draw a smaller second annuity from my 11-year service. Is that true?

Q. I am a GS-15 in the Department of the Air Force in San Antonio. My parent office in D.C. is relocating all field representatives (there are nine of us) back to the National Capital Region. I am 57½ years old and have more than 13 years of service. I know I am always eligible for MRA + 10 retirement, but do I have other options? If I can retire and not lose the 5 percent per year, I would seriously consider this. There is also a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority window still open to me, I believe.

Q. I am 55 and worked 19 years with the Postal Service under FERS (from age 26 through 46). I have worked other jobs in the past and up through a few weeks ago. Can I start drawing my pension from the Postal Service? I realize it would be at a lower rate than if I waited until I was older.

 Q. I will have 25 years under FERS once I complete the buyback of my military time and 15 years of federal time at age 56. Is it true that I have labored under the misconception of the 80 rule all these years? When I was hired, this information was in my package. I can’t believe I have been looking forward to a full retirement just to hear I will lose more than 30 percent.

Q. I am eligible to retire under FERS now that I am 56 years old and have 28 years of service with the Veterans Affairs Department. If I were to retire under FERS disability instead, would I still receive the special retirement supplement that accompanies regular FERS retirement? Also, would my five years of military service be taken into account for FERS disability if I have paid my military deposit into the system?

Q. I retired from the Navy in 2006 after 20 years of military service. I am employed as a civilian mariner in Military Sealift Command as a GS-11. After I reach age 56, can I retire and get my retirement from the federal government and still received my military retirement? I was born in 1965 and will have 13 years of service when I reach age 56.

Q. I plan on separating from the government Jan. 10, 2015, at 56 years, six months and nine days old and postpone getting my annuity until June or July 2018, when I will be 60 years old. My service computation date is May 6, 1990. To accomplish this, my understanding was to submit an SF-52 with Section E filled out to resign and then, approximately 90 days before I wanted my annuity to start, submit a RI92-19 to apply. But I keep reading where I can retire under MRA+10 on a regular retirement form, and there is a way to…
