Q. I am planning on retiring from CSRS at the end of this year. I will be 56 years old and have a little more than 32 years of government service. 1. I currently show 150 hours of use-or-lose annual leave on my last pay stub. If I go into the end of the year and retire with use-or-lose leave on the books, will I get paid for it? Or do I need to burn up the use-or-lose leave before I retire? 2. As I look at the 2013 calendar, to retire at the true end of the payroll year,…

Q. I am retired military receiving a military pension. I am now in a federal government job under FERS. In September 2015, I will have five years of creditable service and will be 61 years old.  My birthday is in November. I believe I am beyond my minimum retirement age. I would like expert confirmation on what I think to be true. Q. I am a FERS employee with more than 25 years of service at 51 years of age. I am interested in retiring at this point and want to know how this will work. I have money under the Thrift Savings Plan and do not plan to draw any annuity until I reach my minimum retirement age. Will I be penalized for each year I did not work until the MRA? Will I be paid for the annual leave I have at the time of separation? How will this affect my ability to opt for medical insurance when I reach…

Q. I’m a Defense Department civilian employee. Is it possible to cash out some of my annual leave for cash? If not, is there a written guideline or directive that states this? As a contractor, I was able to cash out some of my annual leave, and that was a nice option.

Q. If an employee is transferring to another federal agency, is there a prohibition from using annual leave up until the time of transfer? For example, if the date of transfer from one agency is Sept. 21 with the gaining agency date of Sept. 22, can the employee take annual leave from Sept. 16 through the 20th?

Q. I’m preparing to leave FEMA (full-time, temp) after six years of service and transfer to the Veterans Affairs Department, with approximately 330 hours of accrued annual leave. Can I sell all or a portion of my earned leave, prior to leaving FEMA or after I start my new VA job?
