Browsing: Military service deposits

Q. I’m processing my retirement application for this year. In the Application for Immediate Retirement (Form 2801), Schedule A refers to military service information. I have post-1957 military service (1976 – three years, honorable discharge) and first employed by the federal government (1966 – three years) prior to Oct. 1, 1982.  I’ve read somewhere (and you also commented) that a deposit is not needed for these three years of service to be counted into my annuity computation. How do I answer Form 2801, Schedule A, 2, which asks if military service occurred after 1/1/1957 and if a deposit is made…

Q. I paid my military buyback last month, and the payment showed on my Leave and Earnings Statement. I understand that under new procedures, it’s necessary to have a “paid in full” letter before I can apply for retirement using that time, and that it can take up to 120 days to get the letter. Some things I’ve read also say you have to submit a request to get that letter. Is that true? If so, where do I send my request?

Q. I served 15 years and nine months active duty with the Air Force. I received an honorable discharge and $58,608 as part of an early release program special separation benefit during a reduction in force in 1994. I am considering accepting a government position and would like to know how/if my prior military service can be applied to leave accrual, as well as federal retirement?

Q. I am a GS-12 with 14 years service. I am considering the military buyback for my 20 years on active duty. I understand from reading the posts I would still receive my military retirement check until just prior to my FERS retirement. How do you stop the retirement check? The post just says you contact your service. I called DFAS customer service to ask these questions and they could not answer them. Who can provide real help and assistance?

Q. I am a FERS employee and retired military. I have bought back my military time (22 years and one month), and am getting concurrent retirement and disability pay). When it comes to retirement, do I waive my CRDP or is it something else? I also get Veterans Affairs Department disability pay. When you retire with MRA+30, is you formula always 1 percent x years of service or does it change when you hit 62 (1.1 percent x years of service as your retirement amount)?
