Q. I am retired Army, 22 years. I have applied for a GS position. If I accept the position and buy back my Army time, do I still collect my Army retirement while working the GS position? Does waiving my military retirement mean I give up my military retirement at GS retirement and then accept only a GS retirement at a combined percentage?

Q. I have 10 years of active duty with the Navy from 1988 to 1998. During this time, I spent three months in the Persian Gulf under Operation Desert Shield and three months in the Persian Gulf under Operation Desert Storm. I now work for the post office and have made a deposit on those active-duty years. Do the six months in hazardous duty provide anything toward additional leave?

Q. I didn’t retire from the military. I was medically separated. So why do I have to do a military buyback for 12½ years in uniform? I have been with the Defense Department for almost 13 years but have received a length of service award for 24 years. Am I missing something here?
Q. I am a 66-year-old military retiree who has health insurance coverage under Medicare parts A & B and Tricare for Life. In addition, I retired under FERS, but I have never had individual Federal Employees Health Benefits because I have been covered under my wife’s (a FERS civil servant) family FEHB plan for 20 years. She is retiring in a month and plans to continue her FEHB policy for at least five years until she reaches age 65, when she is Medicare eligible. If my wife switches at retirement from a family to an individual FEHB plan, will I…

Q. I made my military deposit several years ago to the Defense Finance Accounting Services as I was (and am) working for the Defense Department. If I take another job, say in Treasury, does anything have to be done to move that deposit somewhere else or is the DFAS deposit applicable for all executive branches?
Q. I’m in the National Guard with 23 years of service (seven being active-duty creditable years) and not drawing a retirement. I’m about to take a GS position under FERS. If I buy back those seven years of active-duty service, will they be removed from my 23 years of military service?
