Q. I retired from CSRS but did not buy my military time (six years) due to misinformation/misunderstanding. Now they are taking away what little Social Security I was receiving. If I go back to work, under Social Security payments, will I be able to build that up and then be eligible for Social Security benefits?
Q. I am a Postal Service employee under FERS. I plan on retiring at age 57 with 27 years of service. I want to get the special retirement supplement until the age of 62, then wait until 66½ to collect Social Security. Will my taking the supplement lessen my Social Security payment when I get it at 66 and six months?
Q. I am a Customs and Border Protection officer. I was hired in August 2003. I am under the CBP officers enhanced retirement, which took effect in July 2008. According to my leave and earnings statement, it says my “Retirement 6C date” is Aug. 24, 2003, which is the date I was hired. Does this mean that my enhanced retirement benefits will be calculated from that date? I thought it would start from the July 2008 date. Can you clarify?
Q. 1. Can a person be noncompetitively temporarily promoted from a GS-14 to a GS-15 without having served 52 weeks as a GS-14? 2. Can a person act in a higher-graded position without competition beyond 120 days?
Q. I am a federal employee and I was mobilized with the National Guard for one year. I am now on terminal leave for 60 days following my deployment. Can I go back to work with the federal government while I’m still on military terminal leave?
Q. I was hired March 3, 1985, in a law enforcement position. When I was hired, I was covered under CSRS. I am now under FERS. Why?
Q. I will be a 37-year, 55-year-old retiree under CSRS and will be retiring in October 2015. I know I have unfunded service time early in my postal career. Casual, Emergency Rural Sub, etc. And I understand that I can fill out a SF-2803 to find out about payment for those unfunded years. If I do nothing, will the Office of Personnel Management automatically generate a statement for me either during my retirement process, or soon thereafter letting me know of this amount in hopes to raise my annuity by that amount?
Q. I am 46 years old with 22 years in a 6(c) covered position. My agency removed me for failing to maintain my TS clearance (not for cause), which I continue to appeal via Merit Systems Protection Board. If I fail to be reinstated, can I work in the private sector and wait until age 50 to apply/receive my FERS special retirement? If no, can I resume federal employment and at age 50 apply/receive my FERS special retirement? Where can I find these guidelines? Is it an agency head approval situation?
Q. I am a re-employed FERS annuitant. My salary is being offset for my annuity. I need five years to be eligible for recomputation. Will being furloughed as a nonessential employee interrupt my five years?
