Q. I accepted a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority that was offered to all postmasters at 51 years old with 31 years of service from the Postal Service on July 31, 2012. I received a $20,000 retirement incentive bonus paid out half in December 2012 and half in December 2013. I am looking to work for the New Jersey Army National Guard as a federal technician. Will I have to pay back the $20,000 retirement incentive bonus? Will my pay be reduced by the amount I receive in my monthly annuity?

Q. I acquired 30 years of service in May and will reach my minimum retirement age in November. If I accept a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority or Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay prior to my MRA, I understand I will not receive the special retirement supplement until I reach my MRA. What about the 5 percent reduction per year prior to age 62? My Federal Employees Health Benefits will be fine as I’ve been enrolled all along, correct?

Q. I am a 60-year-old FERS employee with 19 years and four months of service. I have 2,000 sick leave hours, which I know at Jan. 1, 2014, will get full credit. I have an opportunity to work in the private sector now with increased pay. Which is better: to retire now and receive my pension (although at a reduced rate) and maintain my enrollment in Federal Employees Health Benefits or to defer my annuity to age 62 and then re-enroll in FEHB?

Q. Please clarify where you obtained the answer to the question below, which was posted on your website. I have contacted the Social Security office and have been told that my spouse’s earned Social Security benefits will be offset by 2/3 of the survivor benefit should I die. And if the offset is higher than my spouse’s Social Security benefit, then the Social Security benefit will be zero. Your answer to the question says the complete opposite: —- Q. I am collecting a pension under CSRS. My wife, who has worked and contributed to Social Security, plans to start collecting…

Q. I have an Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs claim on an injury sustained at work. My physician put me on restrictions for three months. My agency has not contacted me in over a week and I’m using sick leave while I wait on their job offer. If they are not able to offer me a job any time soon, could I submit for regular disability under FERS, and also Social Security. If I am not approved for disability, and a job offer is not given, then can I take a regular retirement with unreduced annuity and also get the…

Q. I am a Postal Service CSRS employee with 41 years and 11 months of service. I will retire soon, never switched to FERS. The first two years were a part time job called “Postal Assistant,” requiring me to be a college student. The job allowed me to work a 16-hour week (Saturday and Sunday). My paychecks indicated an hourly wage rather than salary. A recent USPS computer-generated annuity estimate indicates those years as creditable but unfunded service. I have never made a deposit toward that time. The annuity estimate provided does not account for an annuity reduction due to…
